Labware and Scientific Instruments describes a category of devices that are used to test, analyze, control, calibrate, display and record data in laboratory and other testing situations. The major families within labware and scientific instruments are analytical instruments, chromatography instruments, environmental instruments, lab and test equipment, multimeters and electrical test meters, process controllers, product and material testers, panel meters, recorders and loggers, sample preparation and wet chemical analysis, separation devices, sensing and measurement instruments, spectrometers and analytical photometers, and water quality instruments.
Analytical instruments are a wide classification of devices that are used to analyze material samples, or their components, and record data specific to the application. Many of the areas within this family are covered in detail throughout the instrumentation and lab/test equipment category. Some of the major devices within this family are calorimeters and thermal analyzers, capillary electrophoresis separators, centrifuges, conductivity electrodes and other conductivity instruments, density and specific gravity equipment, gas testers and analyzers (the most common being those designed to test for levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2), although other general and specific gas testers are available), durometers and other hardness testing instruments, environmental test chambers, laboratory filters, fluorometers, hydrometers, ION specific electrodes and meters; moisture, humidity and dew point analyzers, pH and ORP devices, rheometers, spectrometers, surface area and tension instruments, turbidity and opacity testers, and water quality meters.
Clinical and research labware and scientific instruments are physical products used to assist in experimentation, research, or other laboratory activities. Some of these items are used to drive experimentation and research, while others are used to prepare samples, clean materials, or protect the user and samples from biological contamination. Major products within this family include autosamplers, autoclaves and sterilizers, baths and circulators, biological safety cabinets, degassers, digesters and diluters, heating mantles, clean benches, hoods, incubators, scales and balances, mixers, ovens, pipettes and tubing, cyclers, vials and syringes.
